I went through my price book and inserted Head1 and Head2, headings above every section that I needed to find in the individual trades. So I decided that might just be the thing to help improve the efficiency of finding any rate quickly. I notice that Buildsoft had an icon 'search by heading' function, which was great for finding heading descriptions in the BOQ's. Thinking on how I had split the price book into trades I wondered if there was a way of doing the same with rates within sections. How could I better control the time it took me to find a particular rate. But I still had in some trades literally hundreds of rates to scroll through to find what I wanted. I split my price book up into Trades so I could easily look in an individual trade when I wanted a rate I needed to use. So, I set about finding ways and means of it 'taking me' only a few seconds to find any rate I wanted. With about 12,000 rates in it, it was becoming cumbersome to say the least, to find anything quickly. That's what I like about their programs, Buildsoft are always willing to listen to new ideas, which leads me to my next 'Estimating Tip' for today.Ī few years ago, I was trying to get the program I was using to make it easier to find rates in the 'Price Book' I had, which I previously constructed in Buildsoft Global. However, I find new ways of doing things in the Buildsoft Programs, and if in the event I can't get the programs to do what I want, I devise a work-around until I can get them to program the feature in. I have use a fair few myself over the years, including CATS and Estimator2, and one or two others that I care not to mention.

BUILDSOFT GLOBAL ESTIMATING TUTORIAL SOFTWARE
There are many software packages out there in the market place, and picking one that works for you is sometimes quite a challenge. A lot of Estimators and Quantity Surveyors in Australia and indeed around the world use Buildsoft Global and Cubit for doing their measuring and estimating.
